==How to Identify?==
Barren worlds can be identified by the third shaded circle icon [[File:GC3 Extreme Barren 32.png|25px|frameless]] next to the planet and when hovering your mouse over the planet, it will indicate it's a barren world. If the planet is not able to be colonized it will give a message in the description that indicates "Requires [[Technology|Extreme Planet]]".

==Description==
Barren worlds is mostly a dry desert planet without any water, which makes it a very harsh world to attempt to survive on. Because of this, it a planet that does not easily sustain many life forms. Barren planets are one of five extreme planets which require additional [[Technology|technologies]] or racial [[Abilities|abilities]] to be able to survive in this environment.

==Strategy==
One may use the [[Abilities|Adaptable]] racial ability to gain an early advantage and the ability to colonize this planet type, especially in a galaxy crowded with races and limited expansion opportunities. Suggestion to colonize normal planets first and extreme planets second. When choosing which barren planets to colonize choose something on the border of your neighbors ZOC (zone of control [influence]) to attempt to persuade inhabitants in the area to your influence.

==Which races able to immediately colonize?==
Currently there are two races in ''Galactic Civilizations III'' that are able to colonize barren planets at the start of the game; The [[File:25px-RaceLogo-Yor.png|25px|frameless|Yor Singularity]] [[Yor Singularity]], and any [[File:25px-RaceLogo custom.png|25px|frameless|Custom Race]] [[Faction_designer|custom faction]] with the [[Abilities|Adaptable]] race trait.
